FAQ:

Q: “What is the difference between the Ukulele sizes?”
Ukuleles in order from smallest to largest:  Soprano, Concert and Tenor all have the same set of strings:  A, E, C & G.
The voice of the ukulele becomes deeper and richer in tone in the larger instruments.  Ukuleles can also vary in tone depending on the quality of the wood and craftsmanship of the instruments. The Concert & Tenor also have more frets (notes) than the soprano.

There is another ukulele known as the Baritone which has the 1st 4 strings of the guitar:  E, B, G & D.  Baritone Ukulele Lessons aren’t available at this time.  Those interested in playing the Baritone may enjoy learning to play a mini 6 string acoustic travel guitar.

Q: “Can my child start taking Ukulele Lessons before they turn 7?”
By age 6-7 a child’s finger length and strength makes it possible for them to effectively press down the Ukulele’s nylon strings, play melodies and shape finger/chord positions.

Q: “Can family members take music lessons together &/or have lessons back to back?”

Fun Options for Family & Friends

Duo Lessons: Parent/child, Grandparent/grandchild or siblings... Take a 30 min duo lesson on the same kind of instrument (example: ukulele).

Private Lessons: Take 30 min. private lessons back to back with a friend or family member (example: 1 ukulele & 1 fiddle) and spend part of the time jamming together!
Q: “One of my children wants to play the ukulele & the other the violin. Can they learn songs to play together?”
Ukulele students who are also learning to play the Violin/Fiddle, or who have a family member or friend who is learning to play the Violin/Fiddle, can learn how to play backup rhythm &/or pick violin music &/or fiddle tunes!
Q: “What do students learn beyond playing songs?”
A: “In order to learn to play the Ukulele like a pro (achieve great sound), there are a number of skills that are focused on during lessons:
  • Good form and posture
  • Left hand ukulele hold/position (for ease of playing and visual effect)
  • Excellent right hand picking & strumming movements
  • Intonation Success! (Learn the secret techniques for making each note ring!)
  • Rhythm! (Learn how to tap out the rhythm to keep time while playing the ukulele as well as how to play in time with other instruments)
  • The Ukulele learning method uses the aural music tradition of
‘Listen, Watch & Play!’ as well as standard music notation with ‘Tabs’ for easy reading!
Q: “Will there be opportunities for students to play together?”
